Thanks to a quick overhaul of the CHP unit, the biogas plant in Pustějov saved nearly CZK 2 million
In 2011, we installed a TEDOM Quanto D580 CHP unit in a biogas plant in Pustějov. The CHP unit has been in operation for more than 12 years and has over 97,000 hours of operation. During this time the CHP unit has been serviced regularly and it underwent one overhaul.
At the beginning of 2023, we have agreed another overhaul with the biogas plant operator. To achieve maximum efficiency, we coordinated our service work with other contractors at the biogas plant. The machine shutdown occurred on Monday, 22 May 2023, at 7am and the overhaul was completed on Thursday, 25 May 2023, at 2pm.
The total downtime was therefore only 79 hours, which is significantly shorter than the standard duration of similar overhauls, which is between 20 and 25 days. In this case, due to good planning and flawless execution of the repair, the total time saved was approximately 20 days. If we take into account the current purchase price of electricity, then with an average output of 550 kW/hour we can talk about savings for the operator in the amount of CZK 1.88 million.
The overhaul included not only the replacement of the genset, but also a thorough maintenance of the pumps and fans as well as the replacement of the operating fluids. The quick overhaul was also made possible by the so-called X-change service provided by MWM, the engine manufacturer, where the manufacturer supplies an overhauled engine, generator and base frame, all completely identical to the original engine (MWM TCG 2016 V12 C), making the replacement quick and easy. The old genset is then shipped back to MWM.
