TEDOM Cento series CHP units are certified for the North American market

calendar 29.11.2023
In October of this year, our Třebíč plant certified the Cento output series for the US market. The entire process was conducted with the involvement of representatives from Underwriters Laboratories (UL) and confirmed that our Cento natural gas CHP units meet the stringent standards for safety and quality. This is positive news for both TEDOM USA and our North American clients.

Through our US office, we are engaged in intensive discussions with our customers and partners in the US and Canada. We always strive to provide our customers with unique, added value. This is why we decided to secure UL certification for four natural gas-fired CHP units operating at a frequency of 60Hz in 2022. Specifically, these models are the Cento 150, Cento 285, Cento 375, and Cento 555, all powered by MAN engines. In addition, each CHP unit is always certified in three different versions: open module, sound enclosure, and containerized version. We have also certified selected options that we have identified as core through our market analysis.

The UL certification, also known as the Underwriters Laboratories certification, is a standardized process designed to demonstrate that certain products or services meet high standards of safety and quality. UL aims to improve the safety of workers and consumers worldwide.

In order to obtain certification, among other things, we had to submit complete documentation for each CHP unit, including all three versions. The documentation includes, for example, schedules, drawings, 3D models, diagrams, a list of certified components, and instructions for use, among other things.

The submitted documents and designs were thoroughly reviewed by a UL engineer in accordance with UL 2200 Edition 2 and CSA C22.2 No. 100, who determined the scope of testing and the type of each test based on the information provided.

The tests included, for example, the control system of the CHP unit, the start-up of the CHP unit, their standard and emergency shutdown procedures, as well as thermal tests, unit performance tests, and others. The main focus was on the non-standard situations that the CHP unit may encounter, and the safe handling of these situations.

“By successfully passing these tests, we have demonstrated the high level of safety in the operation and design of our CHP units, even under extreme or unexpected conditions. A clear benefit of the UL certification of Cento CHP units is the simpler and, more importantly, cheaper commissioning of the CHP unit itself. The UL-certified CHP units no longer need to undergo the field evaluation test, which is carried out by UL. Our customers will certainly appreciate this change.”
